Summer Civics Institute

We the People and Virginia Civics invite NC educators to boost civic learning

• Center for Civic Education Summer Civics Institute: We the People (June 23–27, 2025)
  Virginia Civics and the Center for Civic Education are offering a five-day professional development opportunity through the Civics Empowers All Students initiative. Held at James Madison’s Montpelier, the program is designed for upper elementary and middle school teachers (grades 4–8) serving high-need student populations. North Carolina educators are encouraged to participate!
  Participants will:

  • Join a vibrant learning community of teachers and scholars

  • Receive a classroom set of We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution textbooks

  • Participate in 52 hours of professional learning

  • Receive an $800 stipend upon program completion

  • Gain year-long mentorship and support from experienced educators and constitutional scholars
    The institute culminates in a Simulated Congressional Hearing, giving participants firsthand experience with an inquiry-based model for teaching constitutional principles.
